I'll just come out and say it -- I'm already tired of hearing about the clock situation at the end of the third quarter last night.
Was it a bad call? Yes. Should Orlando and their fans be upset? Yes. Did it cost them the game? No.
Orlando took the lead after that sequence and had two chances to tie or take the lead late in the game. Had Orlando been able to execute down the stretch and not take bad shots (I'm looking at you Hedo Turkoglu) they might have won the game. Alas, they didn't and the Pistons won 100-93.
Some Notes:
- The play in question via YouTube Magic
- Orlando went crazy in the third quarter -- hitting all seven of their three point attempts. In the rest of the game the Magic shot 4-19.
- What is the world was Hedo Turkoglu thinking at the end of the game? Maybe he was having flashbacks to his game winner vs. Boston earlier this season. Mind you this sequence was after a time out. Turkoglu got the ball at the top of the three point arc and threw up a wild shot that bounced off the side of the backboard. Stan Van Gundy was as confused as me. "The Magic called timeout to set up a play, but Hedo Turkoglu inexplicably broke off the play and fired up an errant 3-pointer. "I don't know," Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said of why Turkoglu did that. "I don't understand that shot at all and nobody on our team can understand it either. Down two and a full shot clock. I don't know why he did that." The Detroit News
- Jameer Nelson decided to show up on the offensive end of the floor last night, dropping 22 points but couldn't stop Mr. Big Shot who had 28 points and four dimes.
- The Pistons bigs were in foul trouble all night. Dyess fouled out and let his displeasure be known. Sheed had five fouls and Flip Saunders (yes that Flip Saunders) did an excellent job of keeping him from fouling out.
- Theo Ratliff just got OWNED!
- The Pistons had all five starters in double figures but Rip was ice cold from the floor. 4-18 shooting but did have the last Pistons basket of the game with his three pointer.
- Jason Maxiell and Tayshaun Prince are just on fire right now. Maxiell had a clutch block at the end of the game and finished with 11 points on 5-5 shooting. Tay had 17 and 10 on 8-13 shooting.
