Pistons Keep the Switch Set to 'On'

Now that's championship basketball.

The Pistons dominated the Orlando Magic tonight, winning 91-72 and taking a 1-0 series lead. The game was a back-and-forth affair until the third quarter when the Pistons went on a run to take a 64-49 lead and never looked back.

Some Notes:

  • Jason Maxiell had the best night of the playoffs so far. Max shot 5-8 from the floor for 12 points and had 9 boards. When Max is draining jumpers you know you've got it going on.
  • Tayshaun Prince finally cooled off from his recent hot streak. Prince was 6-16 for 12 points.
  • Dwight Howard injured his left thumb in the second half and was sitting on the bench with a rather large wrap on his hand. Howard said after the game that he'd be fine for Game 2.
  • Chauncey Billups led the Pistons in scoring with 19 points. Billups also logged seven assists.
  • Most Improved Player Hedo Turkoglu had 18 points on 8-16 shooting
  • The Pistons had four players in double figures -- the Magic had two.
  • Orlando had 13 turnovers and the Pistons -- after their struggles in the last series vs. Philadelphia only had 6

  • Here's a good piece by the Free Press' Michael Rosenberg on if the Pistons really flip the switch
  • Series over?
