An Explanation for Martin Biron's Stellar Series Against Montreal...

Simple answer: He hates the Habs. A Quebec native, Biron grew up a die-hard fan of the Quebec Nordiques. His parents were season ticket holders, and he used to paint his face white and blue for the games. He and his parents still believe that the Canadiens cheated in the Nords/Habs game on Good Friday 1984, a game where both teams channeled their inner Flyers which led to 14 fights. Biron says he doesn't view this serie as revenge for the Nords/Habs 1993 playoff series when the Nords won the first two games, then lost four straight, and watched Montreal go on to win the Stanley Cup. However, he said that the history of the rivalry brings him an emotional intensity that he draw from. Biron's passion for the Nords was evident even when he was being scouted by other teams during the 1995 playoffs. A scout for the Anaheim Mighty Ducks took him to a Rangers/Nordiques playoff game. Unbeknownst to the scout, Biron came to the game prepared. As the game began, Biron stood and began to strip off the outer layers of his clothing. The scout look worried, but Biron revealed he was wearing a Nordiques shirt underneath. He told the scout "Right now, I have no affiliation to a team, My team is on the ice and I cheer for them. But in two months, if you draft me, I'll change over to you guys."

It's lines like that that make me love Biron. If you ever find yourself watching a Flyers game, pray that he's miked up for the night. His commentary is priceless.
