Win #17: Phillies 6, Giants 5
Count this as the Phillies most dramatic win of the 2008 season. Down to their final strike, the Phillies won when Pat the Bat Burrell smacked a two out two run homer into the left field seats. J.C. Romero got the win, after allowing his first run this season, and first run in 28+ innings when Aaron Rowand led off the top of the 10th with a home run. It was the first home run Romero gave up in 45+ innings. Rowand, back in Philly for the first time since signing with the Giants, was greeted with a standing ovation from the fans when he batted for the first time in the second inning, joining an elite few athletes who can leave Philly and still be loved. He did, however, get booed when he hit his home run. Kyle Kendrick started the game for the Phillies and pitched well for five innings, only allowing one run. However, in the sixth he ran into some trouble and gave up two more runs. Ryan Madson came in in the seventh and promptly allowed the Giants to tie the game at four. Tom Gordon and Brad Lidge both chipped in solid innings. Chase Utley opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, hitting his 12th home run of the season, which leads the majors. The next closest player is... Pat Burrell who has 9. Burrell also leads the league in rbis with 28. Pedro Feliz provided the other two runs for the Phillies with a two run homer of his own in the fourth inning.
