Billups Injures Hamstring, Pistons Lose Game 3

Well Game 3 was a disaster for more than one reason for the Detroit Pistons yesterday. They lost their point guard Chauncey Billups and lost Game 3 111-86.

Billups went down about three minutes into the first quarter when he slipped and got his foot caught up with Jameer Nelson and immediately went down in pain and limped off the court and did not return.

Some Notes:

  • The first quarter was a disaster for the Pistons after Billups left. The Pistonsfell down 18 early and the first quarter ended 30-16 in favor of the Magic
  • Rodney Stuckey had an admirable 19 points on 5-13 shooting. I have more than enough faith in Stuck to run the offense if Billups can't go.
  • Rip and Tay carried the Pistons last night with a combined 42 points on 18-34 shooting. I still think Tay should have gotten more touches but that's just me.
  • Walter Hermann had almost 13 minutes while Maxiell had 19 minutes and Dyess had 15. I would have liked to see Hermann see more time on the bench than he did on the floor because he really didn't give us much last night.
  • The fourth quarter really just blew this game away. The Pistons had gotten as close as three at one point but the Magic just came out firing from three and put the game away. The Pistons were outscored by 21
  • "Losing Chauncey was huge for us," said Richard Hamilton, who scored 24 points. "He means so much to our team. To not have him out there made a difference. We fought back, but we just couldn't get the win." The Detroit Free Press
  • Kander estimated that he’d give Billups “90 treatments” between this afternoon and Saturday night. That includes all sorts of things, from massage, to electronic stimulation to “stuff he won’t even be able to spell,” Kander said. The Detroit Free Press
  • Rashard Lewis had a playoff career high 33 points on 11-15 shooting and hit five three pointers
