Philadelphia Phillies: The March to 100

Win #10: Phillies 9, Rockies 5
Kyle Kendrick was bailed out of yet another decidedly average start. Chase Utley homered for the 6th time in 5 games, while Jayson Werth had an inside the park homerun and an rbi double and Pat Burrell continued his hot streak with a two run homerun. The Phillies quickly fell behind in the game as Kendrick gave up a 3 run homerun in the second inning, but the Phillies got two back in the 4th on Burrell's homerun. Kendrick gave it right back by allowing a two run homer to Garrett Atkins. The Phillies chased Colorado starter Matt Redman with Werth and Utley's back to back homers in the 6th and then took the lead on Carlos Ruiz's two run double in the 8th. Werth and recent call-up T.J. Bohn each doubled in the 9th to drive three more runs in for the Phillies and to expand the lead to 4. The Phillies got solid relief from their bullpen for the second game in a row as they allowed only 4 baserunners over four innings. Utley made a fantastic play in the field in the third inning that saved at least two runs from scoring. With the bases loaded Clint Barmes smashed a Kendrick pitch up the middle, it skipped off the mound and Utley made a diving play to snag the ball before it made it to the outfield and was able to start a 4-6-3 double play. The Phillies have another chance to break .500 for the first time this season. They have been at .500 several times, but have not been able to pass that plateau. Tonight Brett Myers goes up against Jeff Francis.
