The Indians picked up their $7.5 million option on pitcher Paul Byrd today, despite accusations that Byrd bought and used Human Growth Hormone (HGH).
It surfaced during the ALCS this past month that Byrd spent nearly $25,000 on the banned drug and syringes between 2002 and 2005. Byrd claims he took HGH for a medical condition and did with doctor's supervision. Byrd claimed it was for a "pituitary tumor" and wouldn't elaborate further.
Byrd is scheduled to meet with Major League Baseball to discuss his HGH use.
It will be interesting to see what, if anything comes of Byrd's meeting with Selig and co.
