Looks Like Dickie V Forgot To Take His Crazy Pills

Dick Vitale must be a Georgetown fan.

You may ask why. Well Dickie V took to the airwaves on ESPN Radio this morning and talked about how Roy Hibbert fouled out after only 16 minutes on the court. He then proposed a rule change.

"I really think basketball, we're the only sport where a player is penalized, and put out of a game with a whistle. And you take your star player who you prepare all week with, you work, you develop your offensive, defensive schemes, all of a sudden, boom boom, two fouls, he's out of the game.

"Hibbert played 16 minutes in the game. Vital player for Georgetown. I'd like to see a rule where a player can stay on the floor, at the coach's discretion, and every foul after the fifth is two shots and the basketball if he fouls, you get two shots and the basketball. ... Think about it. Basketball is the only sport where a guy is disqualified because a guy blowing a whistle controls the whole scenario."

First off. Is this a joke?

Secondly, Basketball isn't the only sport where a ref can disqualify you. Soccer comes to mind when I think of a sport where a referee can toss you based on his own discretion.

But to Vitale's point. I mean, could you imagine basketball without fouling out? Also I think giving up two shots and the possession is an awful idea. It isn't a technical foul, it's just a regular foul.

Also what is "at the coach's discretion"? Are you telling me that if Hibbert had fouled out under your rule change that John Thompson III would just go "Okay Roy, that's five, take a seat."?

Like seriously. What coach would sit a star player after five fouls?

We have a foul limit for a reason. So we don't have crazy rules like having unlimited fouls but after the fifth personal for ANY player on the court it's two shots and possession. We do have the bonus for a reason.

Dick Vitale should go back to trying to get Bob Knight a job and fawning over Duke and North Carolina.
